Rich Result

A search listing enhanced with extra detail — ratings, prices, FAQs, images — drawn from a page’s structured data.

A rich result is an ordinary listing with additional elements pulled from markup: star ratings, stock and price, expandable questions, recipe times, event dates. It occupies more of the results page and gives the reader more to judge before clicking.

Eligibility is not entitlement. Valid markup makes a page a candidate; the engine decides per query whether to show the enhancement, and it withdraws features from whole categories periodically, as it did when it cut FAQ rich results back to a narrow set of sites.

The effect is on click-through rather than rank. A listing with visible detail earns more clicks from the same position — which is why rich results are worth pursuing but not worth building a strategy on, given the engine can turn the feature off.
